I'm a bourbon guy and french fries have gotten me through a lot. Told a lot of stories over never-ending baskets of fried potatoes.

[ And he is there, with booze because it's only right if she's bringing food. He's dressed much more casually than the first time they met in jeans and a gray henley, looking nice and casual. ]

[And alright, maybe she's a few minutes behind him, but she brings the food as promised, fries, finger sandwiches, and extras of the heart-shaped cookies she'd been giving out all morning. The elf is all casual too, her long hair pulled back into a braid, wearing leggings and a pale pink tee. She plops the food down onto one of the tables and immediately slides into a chair, smiling.]

Our own V-Day party of two. How's tricks, bud?

You know, I think I've definitely had some terrible Valentine's Days, but this one might not be so bad.

[ He smiles (and wow, she's pretty), sliding over a glass for her. ]

So, this is like a buffet for two, honestly, you outdid yourself.

Anytime spent with 'cha girl is anythin' but bad.

[He compliments her, but Lup waves it away with a grin.] It's nothin'. If you want a real bomb meal, hit me up and I'll blow your mind. My brother an' I worked as chefs for over a century. We know what we're doing.

So Princey, what's up? How's your whole Wonderland sitch goin'?

I will for sure keep that in mind.

[ He loves good food, and he'll never turn down a meal. He also has no shame in asking for one. ]

Oh, you know, same stuff different day. I think. Time doesn't really move so it's hard to say. But, you know, not terrible? My family's still here, so that's good. What about you? How's this place treating you?

It's getting there.

[Which isn't much of an answer, but that's how Lup feels right now. She's usually not so honest, but the holiday just kinda hits home and reminds her of how lonely Wonderland makes her feel.] Some days are worse than others. Today's a crappy one, but that's why I've dragged you out for a good time.

I've got fam here too, but because it's Wonderland, it's way more complicated than that.

I mean, it wouldn't be Wonderland if it wasn't complicated, right?

[ His face does soften though. ]

Well, we can talk about it, or not, whatever you want to do, but we can definitely eat our weight in food no matter what.

[Lup settles in comfortably next to the man, picking at a fry for a moment before she finally answers.]

So, long story short, my twin brother got all of his memories of me wiped before he popped into this place. It's been a few months and we just can't find anythin' to bring 'em back. He can recognize we're totally identical, but like, his mind was fucked with enough that he can't understand when I say 'sister' or 'twin'.

So, it's complicated and weird. And pretty unfair. Makes all the holidays kinda shitty.

That's...I mean, yeah. That's pretty terrible.

[ It kind of makes his crap not seem as bad. ]

Is it magic? I mean, were they wiped by magic? Because if so, my mom's pretty powerful, I could always see if she'd give an assist.

Kinda. [The story is so convoluted, she just doesn't have the energy to put it all out there today, but Lup can try to shorten it down to key facts and details.]

It's because of a magical creature, a voidfish. This thing we found that eats up memories. Anything it vores on gets erased from the minds of everyone and the only cure to combat that brainfog is to drink it's weird juices. Gross, I know. To kinda throw an example out there, my hubby and I played a song for the thing and gave it our sheet music. It gobbled up the paper and poof. Our song was gonezo. We like, knew we'd performed a song, but the actual notes were just gone.

So it's magic, kinda, but more complicated.

If the problem was just magic, I'd take care of it myself. [She pauses, to idly chew at a fry, rolling the man's words around in her head. To be honest, she's getting desperate for a cure at this point. It's been over six months of this crap.]

...But if you wanna chat with your ma, I wouldn't mind a second opinion.

Huh.

[ That just...wasn't what he was expecting at all, so he thinks about it, just letting himself think back to what he knows, if he's ever heard of anything like that before. ]

Wow, I...honestly don't know if there's ever been anything like that back home. And not because I've never heard of it? Because I have an issue with my memory too. If we ever came across anything like that, I definitely can't remember it at all. What I do know is that curses work a little differently than a voidfish. With a curse, it's not so much that everything is gone, it's more like it was....overridden. With new memories.

[ So, not quite the same, but still. ]

I'm sorry, Lup. That just...that sucks. I'll still talk to her though because Regina's seen more things in different realms than I think I've ever been told. Might not hurt to talk to her when you're ready.

[ The real person would probably be Rumplestiltskin, but he's not here so they have to take what they can get. ]

New memories...

[Yeah, that's definitely different than how the voidfish operates. In the case of her brother, his brain had to adjust, had to struggle to fill in the gaps of his memories where Lup once existed. It turned a struggling childhood of the two of them against the rest of the world into a lonely existence of only him, with not a single other soul to trust. Taako's still Taako, sure, but he isn't the man she spent two centuries with, so much of him changed by the loss of her.

Maybe that's what is worst of all. Lup hates seeing her twin this closed off and cynical, untrusting of everything and everyone, including her. He shouldn't be like this.]

Thanks, Henry. [It's soft and surprisingly sincere, for her.] Maybe I will. Chat with her, that is. [She's trying not to put too much hope into it, but it's impossible for her spirits to not lighten at the idea of someone else to talk to. Maybe they'll know.]

Your memory is all fucked up with too? And not from Wonderland, I'm guessing? You got cursed?

Yeah, not from Wonderland. Home has a lot of cursing and revenge between people and others just tend to get caught up in it. Luckily, I've been in Wonderland so long I know who my parents are because they've been here, too. But if I didn't have that? I wouldn't know at all.

[ It's confusing and complicated, he knows. ]

Sounds just as complicated as my place. I knew talkin' to you was a good idea. We have more in common than I thought.

You've got a big family around these parts, huh? All of 'em magic users or just some?

Just three, really. Both my moms, and my grandfather. In our world, he's uh...the oldest magic? Fairytales took part of his story so you might know of him as Rumplestiltskin? If you do at all, that's more of an obscure one-off story.

The oldest magic? That sounds bomb as fuck.

[Very prestigious. And a little spooky. Lup likes the sound of it.]

Can't say I have, but never really delved much into fairytales as a kid. [No books or home for that to happen.] But I'll check with my pal, see if she's heard of 'im. Cuz that would be pretty rad.

So your grandpa's all famous, huh? What about you? He musta passed some of that magic down to you, right?
